Come help us burn our mortgage!
Circle June 27 on your calendar and get ready for some fun!

In times like these, what could be better than a mortgage-burning? Particularly when it is accompanied by an evening of song and dance, amusing stories about the Players Club’s past, and light refreshments. This will be an opportunity to become acquainted or re-acquainted with your fellow theater lovers. And, it is an opportunity to help the theater that is helping you in these hard times. How does PCS help you? By providing top-quality live theater at rock-bottom prices, in a comfortable theater, without the hassle of city traffic or the cost of city parking. We can do this because our 100% volunteer casts, crews, and staff all work for the love of theater, not the love of money.

Nevertheless, we are in need of financial help. Why? Because the costs of maintaining our wonderful facility are very significant. Just as you do at home, we must pay for water, gas, electricity and trash removal. We must pay insurance and real-estate taxes. Also, a facility as large as ours requires constant maintenance and upkeep. The royalty and music rights for our shows are very expensive. Programs and advertising cost money. And even though our crews are hard-working and innovative, the costs of scenery materials, costumes, and light bulbs are also significant.

One cost, however, we can completely eliminate! For the past 19 years, we have been paying off the mortgage which we incurred to build our new lobby and Second Stage. Some of you may remember having to stand outside in line to see a PCS show, or go upstairs in order to use a restroom! We solved those problems, and we made our theater more accessible, but we still have mortgage payments to make every month. The savings from paying off our mortgage will provide our club $10,000 to put towards our other expenses each year. In times like these, we desperately need to be able to use every available dollar to maintain our facility and produce great theater.

Please help us! Your tax-deductible donation to The Players Club of Swarthmore will allow us to burn our mortgage. What a wonderful way for you to support great live theater, and to be a part of our 98 year tradition of serving the community. We are hoping to receive sufficient donations (approximately $20,000) to burn the mortgage on stage at a special evening gala on June 27, 2009.

As a token of our appreciation, all contributors of $30 or more will receive a complimentary ticket to the June 27 festivities. In addition, all contributors will be listed on a special commemorative plaque to be permanently displayed in our lobby. Although we are hoping that you can give at the $30 or $100 level or more, we appreciate all contributions, no matter what size. All contributions will be acknowledged for your tax records.

Please give as generously as you are able, so that you can continue to enjoy professional quality theater in comfortable surroundings right here in your own neighborhood. And please join us for our Benefit Gala at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27. We will be reprising songs and dances from recent PCS productions and showcasing performers from the other performing arts organizations that use our theater space. The evening will begin with a champagne and hors-d’oeuvre reception at 6:30 p.m.

Remember, every donation of $30 or more entitles you to a ticket, but once we have distributed 300 tickets, our theater will be filled to capacity, so be sure to contribute as soon as you are able. We are going to have a great time, but it will be even better if YOU are there. Thank you in advance for your support and for your love of live theater.
