Director Ellen Wilson Dilks is looking for a diverse cast of 3—5m and 3—5w, ranging in age from early 20s to mid 40s to play multiple characters. For the initial audition, please prepare a 3 minute comedic monologue that best showcases your abilities. All roles are open and all types/ethnicities are encouraged. The play consists of a series of vignettes that take place on a Friday night in and around the fictitious town of “Almost.”

Prologue =

Pete- local boy, perhaps has gone to college elsewhere. [Mid 20s]

Ginette- local girl, hasn’t travelled much. [Early 20’s]

Both are rather shy; they have been dating for awhile, but they haven’t said the “L” word—yet.

Her Heart =

East- a local who now works as a repairman. Well read, intuitive. [40—45 approx.]

Glory- a hiker. Rather scattered and emotionally vulnerable. [35—45 approx.]

Sad and Glad =

Jimmy- local heating and cooling guy. Content with his life, except for: [early 30s.]

Sandrine- his ex-girlfriend. Wanted more than Jimmy was able to give. [25—30 approx.]

Waitress- probably new to town. Kinda sassy. [25—30 approx.]

Their first encounter since the break up

This Hurts=

Marvalyn- Very adept at protecting her emotions. Lives with her boyfriend in a local rooming house [early 20s]

Steve- an open, kind fellow whose brother protects him The 2 also lives in the rooming house [mid 20s]

Lots of physical comedy in this piece

Getting It Back =

Gail-feels her biological clock ticking [early 30s]

Lendall- her longtime boyfriend [same]

Interlogue =

Pete returns

They Fell =

Randy- socially inept with women, but into his “guyness” [late 20s]

Chad- even more socially inept—with practically everyone.

Where It Went =

Phil- a working man, content with his life [35—40]

Marci- his wife; hard working too, feels there’s something more… [same]

Story of Hope =

Hope- a woman who left town to travel the world [40—45 approx.]

Man (Daniel)-who stayed put [same]

Seeing the Thing =

Rhonda- a tough woman [early 30s]

Dave- the not-so-tough guy who loves her. [same]

Epilogue =

Pete & Ginette return

The Director is seeking a multi-age, multi cultural cast who can energize into a wonderful ensemble! There are no age restrictions on the characters. We will have an ensemble of young people (8 and up) and most of the other roles will be cast with those who’s ages range from the teens and older – no one is too old! For your audition, you can plan on singing 16 bars of anything you like that shows off your voice – it is OK to sing from the show! Be prepared to participate in a short group dance/movement audition and also a short group fun activity!
