Esther (Female) Mid Thirties, African American. A plain woman, she is blessed with a genius of creating fine lingerie. She is full of determination and dreams for her future.

Mrs. Dickson (Female) 50’s, African American. An attractive widow, she owns the boarding house where Esther lives. She is the ‘mother’ figure for Esther.

Mrs. Van Buren
(Female) 30’s, White American. Her voice should have a ‘hint’ of a southern accent. She is a wealthy society woman, who is one of Esther’s clients. She attempts to carry herself with poise and confidence.

Mr. Marks (Male) 30’s, Romanian Jewish immigrant. Orthodox Jewish, he owns a fabric shop out of his apartment.

Mayme (Female) 30’s, African American. Oberlin College-educated, composer, pianist, and prostitute. Esther’s client and friend. Ability to play a piano a plus. Light singing.

George (Male) 30’s, African American. A native of Barbados, working on the Panama Canal. Must have no problem w/ a Barbadian accent.

The Trojan Women is a bleak and agonizing portrait of war's brutality. The play begins at the end of the Trojan War. The Greeks are victorious. The Trojan men have been slaughtered and the women and children captured and enslaved. Set in a prisoner of war camp, the women lament their loss of everything and everyone they hold dear. The Trojan Women consists of 8 main and 4-6 ensemble characters. The ensemble cast has significant vocal and dramatic demands. All roles have 2-3 page monologues.

Andromache Wife of Hector, Mother of Astyanax Female – Age: 25-35 Passionate, Desperate, Grieving Loss of Hector

Menelaus King of Sparta, Husband of Helen Male – 40-55 Consumed with Helen, Seeks Revenge

Helen Wife of Menelaus, Daughter of Zeus Female – Age: 20-30 Beautiful, Sensuous, Devious, Controlling

Elma Duckworth (F) 16-18, Elma is an innocent, naïve smart high-school student, full of dreams, working as a waitress at the diner. Has a romantic streak.

Cherie (F) 18-25, nightclub singer (ability to hold a tune important, but doesn’t have to be a great singer) she’s pretty, a bit fragile, grew up too fast. From the Ozarks and has a southern accent. Please prepare a short song to sing A cappella.

Grace Hoyland
(F) 30-50. Runs the diner. Husband ran off years ago and she’s come to terms with her life. Earth mother type and will flirt when the right man is around.

Bo Decker (M) 20-30. Ranch owner, attractive cowboy and also impulsive, naïve and innocent. Thinks he knows what he wants.

Virgil Blessing (M) 40-50. Bo’s ranch hand and surrogate father. Big heart, laid back. Plays guitar.

Will Masters (M) 40-50’s. Sheriff of the town, big, likes everything in order. Tough but fair.

Dr. Gerald Lyman (M) 40-50’s. Former professor, very literate and a bit of a poet. An alcoholic and has “trouble” with young women.

Carl 30-50. Bus driver, hearty, good natured. Romantic interest with Grace.

This play is about the stormy relationship between Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand. Everyone should be prepared to sing at auditions.

Mack Sennett - (baritone) plays from mid thirties to fifty

Mabel Normand - (mezzo) plays from early twenties to late thirties

Lottie Ames - (mezzo) plays from mid thirties to forties has big tap number

Frank - (baritone) late teens to early twenties - newspaper boy who becomes a writer

Ella – pianist (must be able to play) over thirty

Fatty Arbuckle - plays from middle twenties to forty

Andy – stage hand plays mid twenties

Writer - male, mid twenties to forties

Kessel and Bauman – producers, both male, older one is short the other is tall

Grips, actors and actresses, Keystone Kops – various ages and sizes

Bathing Beauties – need six or more good tap dancers

Other Woman - early twenties

William Desmond Taylor - plays from forties to fifties
