New Plays 2014

Directed by: Rose Azrael and Ellen Wilson Dilks

March 6th & 7th

The Players Club of Swarthmore presents three new plays by local authors, directed on the PCS Second Stage by Rose Azrael and Ellen Wilson Dilks, both of Media. The playwrights are Quinlan Schultz of Swarthmore and Lisa Lutwyche of Chester County. The plays are The Waiting Room by Quinlan Schultz and two by Lisa Lutwyche, Getting the News and So Busy.

All three plays will be presented in script-in-hand productions on two successive evenings, March 6th and 7th at 8:00. Admission is $5.00 at the door.

Quinlan Schultz, who is currently a student at Hampshire College in Amherst, wrote The Waiting Room during a course where students analyzed two genres of theater, absurdism and magical realism. Though this is his first “actual play,” Quinlan has a love for the written and spoken word. He is an avid reader and loves to tell stories. He claims Stephen Sondheim and Samuel Beckett as his influences.

Lisa Lutwyche lives in southern Chester County. She is an adjunct English professor at Cecil College in Maryland. She has been a writer all her life, with an MFA in creative writing from Goddard College in Vermont. She began as a poet and fiction writer, but has been writing plays for over five years. “Once I saw my written words embodied in human form, I was hooked,” Lisa exclaimed. She cites as her most influential playwrights David Mamet, Wendy Wasserstein, and Sam Shepard. Her play So Busy was published in a literary magazine but has never been produced.
