Character Descriptions:

  • Nick Cristano: (male, 29-35) Our slightly neurotic protagonist. He’s an ambitious ad executive with a typical modern life: he enjoys his job, ethnic restaurants and the conveniences of technology – but he could stand to loosen up a bit. His cross-country promotion is the crisis around which the action of the play is centered.
  • Frank Gianelli: (male, ~ 80) Nick’s maternal grandfather. Born in Italy, immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 14. He’s tenacious, funny, independent and loving. Vehemently opposed to giving up driving, despite his family’s insistence that he do so.
  • Aida Gianelli: (female, 70s) Nick’s maternal grandmother. She shows her love by feeding people, and she has a lot of love to give! She’s also a bit of a worrier. The ultimate Nana.
  • Nunzio Cristano: (male, 70s) Nick’s paternal grandfather. Gregarious and proud. The big storyteller of the family. He got his first job by telling the factory he was Irish because at the time Italians had a tough time finding work. He’s dying of cancer, but hasn’t told anyone.
  • Emma Cristano: (female, 70s) Nick’s paternal grandmother. A frugal homemaker with an attitude. She speaks her mind and enjoys her life. Her past-times include going to church, taking bus trips to Atlantic City and Perillo tours. She’s the one who comes up with the scheme to keep Nick from moving away.
  • Caitlin O’Hare: (female, late 20s) Attractive and charming. She’s definitely someone who’s comfortable in her own skin. She has a relaxed manner and is happy to enjoy the company of those around her. Not easily embarrassed or offended.

The audition form is available on the Auditions Page.
