Synopsis:

Follow the adventures of Sam and Alex, two bumbling actors trying desperately to present a few of the world’s most beloved fairy tales. Unfortunately, their script becomes seriously scrambled.  In the end, both the actors and the audience learn creative tale telling through these furry tails … er … fairy tales.

Furry Tails with a Twist is written by Jennifer Hickok DeFratis and directed by Jim Carroll. It stars Donna Dougherty (of Media) and Liz Iannacci (of Morton). Performances take place at Players Club of Swarthmore on the Raymond W. Smith Stage, an intimate, fully air-conditioned, black box theatre. Meet the actors and enjoy cookies and juice in the lobby after every performance.

Q&A

We caught up with actress, Liz Iannacci for a quick Q&A.

PCS: As an elementary school teacher, how do you connect with Furry Tails?

Liz: As a teacher, this piece is fun to connect to with. Kids love to see shows they know. These are classic stories that kids know and love [Billy Goats Gruff, Three Little Pigs, and Goldilocks] but we’re messing up the stories in a silly way. We get them involved a lot so I think they will love it!

PCS: What is one of your most favorite characters to portray in the show?

Liz: I love playing the goat [Billy Goat’s Gruff]. It’s probably the most bizarre moment but it’s so much fun.

PCS: How is working with just one other actor the entire show, the incomparable Donna Dougherty?

Liz: It’s a new learning experience being in a two person show. The learning curve is a nice challenge. Donna is so much fun and we had a chance to work together before. We’re constantly laughing at one another and aren’t afraid to goof around while playing on stage. We’re supportive of one another and that’s crucial in a show like this!

PCS: That’s right! You played Amber and Velma Von Tussle in our Broadway World Award-winning production of Hairspray! For parents who haven’t exposed their children to theater yet, do you think this play would be the right starting point?

Liz: I do! It’s in a black box setting which gets children so close to the action. Since they have to help put the stories back together, it will keep them engaged and thinking. It’s great for parents too. Seeing stories adults loved as kids themselves along with two silly adults messing up those stories, will surely entertain.
